That is precisely and completely it, confirms showrunner Scott M. Gimple.
The audience are seasoned survivors now.
Some loved the ride, while others felt strung along.

I was like, Cool.
Lets verify that we do this right.
We tried for something that could have been dangerous, and to some, it was.
And to some, they didnt like it, and things became polarizing to an extent for that move.
But I never felt like our heart was at a place where we were trying to deceive the audience.
Never were we like, People are going to go crazy for this!
It was more just like, lets tell this story and make it compelling and make it purposeful.
Thats not what were here to do as storytellers and TV-makers and filmmakers and stuff like that.
And I cant really ask for much more than that, you know?
Thats certainly not the case with a lot of other programs.
Yeah, the fan base is very loyal, and theyre invested.
So, I dont know.
So the wait didnt bother me.
What were your thoughts on that?
Thats what the discussions were always about.
because they have so many other resources to, in a weird way, taint it.
Had Glenn gone out that way, I think it wouldve upset fans because it wasnt trulyhismoment.
Would you have been okay if Glenn had gone out that way?
Theres two parts of me on that.
But theres also something super-awesome about just getting ripped away from people, you know?
And I dont know if its right for that medium.
Television is a different medium than the comic books are.
And thats why we operate differently than we do the comic books.
And there was no final heroic move.
If anything, it was just incredibly sad, because it was so preventable, but it wasnt.
And so I dont know.
Theres a beauty to both sides, I could argue.
At this point, were dealing with so many different tastes that its just opinions, I guess.
Thats sort of what youre talking about.
Hes just there talking, and then boom, hes gone, just like that.
Yeah, and it sucks for the actor, Lew Temple.
But at the same time, thats what it is, you know?
Thats what it is.
People dont get to say final things in real life.
You just get ripped out of existence.
So, its kind of up to peoples tastes on how they want to consume this.
I noticed that while we were waiting to learn Glenns fate, you went off the grid.
I dont care about spoilers for me, personally.
If someone spoiled something for me, Im like, Yeah, whatever.
But I just hate robbing that experience from people whodocare.
So, for me, it was like, I dont want to put anything out there.
Best form of doing that is to just not say anything.
