What was going through your mind when Carson Daly announced your victory?
But immediately my mind was like Okay Jordan, slow down.
How do you possibly take the mic and sing after that?
Ill tell you, its not nearly as easy as it looks.
Before that I kind of forgot that that happened.
I was like WHAT?
It kind of took me by surprise.
I think that the greatest thing we can do as humans is connect with other humans.
I wanted people searching for that connection to find it somehow.
I wanted to inspire hope and emotion and joy in people.
I think music is most powerful when its not only sung, but lived.
From Beyonce to Adele, you did make some bold song choices.
How did you come up with those selections?
Song selection is one of the most important aspects of the whole show.
First and foremost I wanted to sing music I connected with.
But secondly I wanted to sing music I enjoyed, that I thought was good music.
He picked many of my songs.
It sounds like you and Adam had a good working relationship.
We really did build a very trusting equal relationship whenever it came to collaborating each week.
Adam did mention in the finale he had a different song in mind for your holiday selection.
Which song was it?
So I mentioned adjusting it and he was very open to that.
So I think that just speaks to the bang out of relationship we built throughout the show.
Ultimately I appreciate that he said that to everyone.
Were there any other songs on your dream list you didnt get to perform?
Do you have a least favorite?
My favorite performance probably isSomebody to Lovejust because it is so unexpected.
That week I was feeling very fatigued vocally.
I was a little under the weather and I wasnt feeling great.
I was reaching for some notes in that song and trying to do some difficult things.
Its okay not to be okay.
You dont have to be perfect.
So I decided that I was going to go for those things.
I want to work with Tori Kelly.
I love her voice.
I was so jealous of Jeffrey [Austin] that he got to sing with her on the show.
And I would love to sing with Adele if that was ever possible.
Do you have an early ideas for what youd like your first album to sound like?
I want to make an album that really is all about connecting with people.
