The Telluride Film Festival unveiled the lineup for its 44th edition on Thursday, continuing the tradition of announcing its slate a mere 24 hours before it begins.
The festival runs from Sept 1-4, and will include Guillermo del TorosThe Shape of Water, Alexander PaynesDownsizing, Joe Wrights Winston Churchill filmDarkest Hour, and Greta Gerwigs directorial debutLady Birdamong its offerings.

In addition there will be two documentary shorts Heroine (E)by director Elaine McMillion Sheldon andLong Shotby director Jacob LaMendola and the Silver Medallion Awards given to Christian Bale (in attendance for Scott CoopersHostiles) and Todd HaynesWonderstruckcinematographer Ed Lachman.
The festival has become the unofficial first indication of which films might become players in the award show game: eight of the last nine best picture Oscar winners screened there, including this yearsMoonlight(and initially-announced winnerLa La Land).
