That decision then resulted in two deaths: Davina and Lucien.

So we spoke with showrunner Michael Narducci about the twists and what comes next.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Well start with the obvious question.

In terms of story, why kill Davina?

MICHAEL NARDUCCI:We certainly didnt want to do it.

We love the character and we love Danielle [Campbell].

And thats not necessarily going to result in justice or fairness or heroic behavior.

Would I sacrifice a friend for my loved ones, for my family?

Interestingly enough, Klaus kind of hates Davina.

Freya just wants to do right by this family.

I did love that it wasnt Klaus call this time.

He wanted to find another way.

Whenwe talked about Camis death before, I talked about how she has irrevocably altered Klaus.

Im not saying hes ever going to be a good guy.

With Cami and Davina, were you all hesitant to have two big deaths happen so close together?

It was absolutely something we were hesitant to go forward with.

As we have said in the past, Davina is a special entity.

There is an afterlife for witches.

Theres still more story to tell with Kol and Vincent and even Marcel wanting revenge against them.

Id say theres still more story to tell with Davina.

Last week, we spoke about the decision to have Klaus and Cami say I love you.

Unlike Cami, Davina thought she was coming back.

Cami knew she was dying.

Hes feeling overwhelmed with guilt that he couldnt protect her and shes saying, Im not a kid.

You did protect me and you cant lock me away.

This was a very difficult moment.

We can handle ourselves.

In releasing Marcel from any guilt, she reminds the audience of their connection.

Hes overwhelmed with grief at the end of this episode.

Speaking to that, how will Davinas death affect things moving forward?

Theres a tectonic shift in the alliance between Marcel and the Mikaelsons.

And despite that, this is how things have ended for him.

Hes just realizing that its systemic this betrayal, this treachery.

Marcel has a very difficult choice ahead of him.

Okay, maybe this is a dumb question, but Im so bummed: Is Lucien really dead?!

But hes so good!

Andrew Lees is incredible.

I love Andrew Lees.

I loved to hate Lucien.

I think thats a very fascinating motive and drive and I loved hating him.

Fortunately, he will exist forever on the DVDs.
