ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How didThe Nightly Showopportunity come about?
FRANCHESCA RAMSEY:I was actually a guest late last year.
I didnt feel like that was something I was good at.
Initially I thought it would be a part-time opportunity, but they ended up offering me a full-time job.
Whats been the best part of working there?
And also the challenge.
Like I said, I never really considered myself very strong in the political spectrum.
I feel likeThe Nightly Showhas really pushed me to be more aware and informed.
Whats your process when youre coming up with a segment or a topic to cover?
We have an awesome team that pulls a lot of stories that are trending in the news.
Based on the take that Larry likes the most, we go back and start writing.
Youve done segments on BeyoncesLemonadeand Kanye Wests Famous video.
Has there been a favorite segment that youve done or are most proud of?
Its frustrating to see people unfairly criticize her self-expression.
Oh my God, yeah.
[Laughs]
How do you deal with that?
I feel like Ive really gotten better at picking and choosing who I respond to and how I respond.
A lot of times on Twitter, people say, Why do you talk to all of these people?
And that, to me, is more important than somebody who calls me names.
Of course, Im human and some days, its upsetting.
But its just part of the job.
Theyre the reason I do the work.
I wondered about your general thoughts on the upcoming presidential election.
Does something like Brexit foreshadow bad things for Americans, come November?
[Its] a great example of what happens when you dont actually do your homework.
Personally, I do not think that person is Donald Trump.
So Im going to vote for whoevers going to check that Donald Trump is not in the White House.
Looking forward, are there any projects youre excited about, or general goals you have in your career?
Im writing a lot, developing a scripted series with a friend.
Were trying to take our time with it and ensure that its right.
Aside from that, Im just focused onDecodedandThe Nightly Show.
Im really excitedThe Nightly Showis a place I can do that.
