Theres one recap per page, so feel free to dig in and read along as you watch.

Afterwards, his teacher tells him hell never amount to anything if he remains a coward.

That finally moves him to recite the poem, and its heartbreaking.

Eventually, Zeke wins out and gets the record.

Once Zeke makes it inside Les Inferno, he convinces DJ Malibu to play the song for Mylene.

The handling of this gun violence is far from graceful.

Eventually, the Warlords open fire on the dance floor.

Despite the tonal whiplash, its this scene that confirmed I wanted to stick with this show.

Shaolin Fantastic tracks down Zeke because he needs the record for a secret underground party thrown by Grandmaster Flash.

The episode and Zeke come alive during Flashs party.

Shaolin Fantastic, Ezekiel (a.k.a.

Books), and the Kipling brothers are now known as the Fantastic Four Plus One.

At least, thats how Shaolin introduces them to Grandmaster Flash when he stops by.

They have 24 hours to do so.

Zeke even convinces Shaolin to stop dealing drugs for Fat Annie.

Having unlocked the secret, Flash returns and teaches Shaolin how to mix a beat using two turntables.

The episode explores how music might be saving them from the nastier parts of life in the Bronx.

This brutal scene is juxtaposed with the Fantastic Four having fun, making it feel even more tragic.

But the Fantastic Four Plus Ones escape through music only lasts so long.

And just like that, theyre all confronted with some harsh realities.

She asks Zeke to remix the hymn she plans on singing.

Boo-Boo pretends to spin while the tape plays for the party guests.

However, that bit of harsh reality forges a stronger bond between the guys.

Were the get-down brothers, says Zeke, vowing to take down Cadillac when they get the chance.

Meanwhile, Mylene heads into Manhattan to meet with Jackie.

However, Jackies tantrum in the studio is interrupted when the blackout hits.

The episode culminates with Mylene literally taking an upset Zeke up to the roof.

They view it as a chance for him to better himself and to stay out of trouble.

But Mylene doesnt need a man, because shes got her girls Yolanda and Regina to help her out.

Thankfully, Regina is able to bring him back from the edge in time.

See, Jackies been on a bender trying to compose this song.

This is his chance to redeem himself and hes failing.

This show loves jumping between two scenes, and thats what happens as the episode closes.

You Have Wings, Learn to Fly is definitely the best episode so far.

Its truly an inspired idea that saves him from having to face Franciscos wrath.

Because of the trip to Brooklyn, Zeke misses his appointment with Mr. Gunns about the internship.

Obviously, his aunt and Ms. Green are very disappointed in him.

Zeke tells them he would rather be a rapper than do the internship.

Success seems to be on the horizon for everyone in the episode.

The performance is asGlee-ful as one could hope.

The road to power will take you away from everything that you hold dear, instructs Gunns.

He asks if Zeke will be willing to make tough decisions to get what he wants.

Meanwhile, Shaolin finds Napoleon and learns Wolf is the one responsible for shooting up Annies club.

It was Wolfs attempt at staging a coup.

Its hard growing up, aint it?

she says in an attempt to comfort him.

However, Jackies meeting with Leslie doesnt go as planned.

she performed oral sex on him).

This is Leslies chance to get payback, so she makes him return the favor.

If you let it, it will corrupt you or make you a better person.

I want the power to change things, he tells Gunns.

(Toquote Kanye West, in this white mans world, Zeke is the one chosen.)

Thor invites Dizzee to this party in SoHo, which turns out to be an underground gay club.

Coincidentally, Carlo Pakoussa is DJing and Thor convinces him to play Mylenes song.

The club goes wild.

As everyone falls in love with Set Me Free, Dizzee lets himself go and kisses Thor.

The day of the big battle and rally arrives.

Unfortunately, Ed Koch arrives late, leaving The Get Down Brothers to twiddle their thumbs until Zeke arrives.

Koch takes the stage and lays out his plan to incarcerate every graffiti artist they find.

The young people arent the problem.

Were the solution, he says, quoting his mother and rejecting Kochs initial speech (#ListenToTheKidsBro).

He concludes his speech with a halfhearted endorsement of Ed Koch and runs off to the battle.

This iswhat flying looks like.

The ending montage also informs us that Koch wins in a landslide.

See you guys when part 2 drops in 2017.
