How did Scotty die?
And what’s killing the show?
There are plenty of soaps out there that aspire to be viewed as serious dramas. The Affairis different.

Its a serious drama that aspires to be a soap.
Well, it seems thatThe Affairs writers took that advice.
After all, the producer had just compared Noah to the author ofLolita.
Thats what you call a cosmic coincidence.
Not being able to separate fantasy from reality was a problem with the wayThe Affairframed its characters, too.
… No marriage, no matter how strong, could survive her?
And the idea that Helen would view his readings the same way makes sense.
Can you blame her for being paranoid?
But the other details of Noahs life as the bad boy of American letters were just ridiculous.
His publicist throws a publishing party for Noahs book on Thanksgiving night?
One thing saved this season for me, though: Maura Tierney.
The jilted wife isnt usually a character that allows for a lot of subtlety.
Shes either a martyr or a villain who deserved to get cheated on.
After all, she spent all season making Helen into someone who was more than just Noah Solloways ex-wife.
Its hard to tell where things are headed for season 3.
(Read Sara Vilkomersons full recap here.)
The twist-within-a-twist of Scottys death Helen killed him, no Alison killed him!
And that Hail Mary confession by Noah in the courtroom doesnt exactly move things forward, plot-wise.
And yet, somehow, I still cant quitThe Affair.
Maybe Im the Helen to its Noah Solloway.
