LARRY WILMORE:Were hanging in there.
We got some booze from Stephan Colbert.
We raided the minibar.
So we drank a little bit of that tonight.
I guess everybody thinks I need to be drunk?
Did you guys finishthe Samantha Bee wine?
Well, not all of it of course not all those cases.
Thats some good wine.
So tell me about the episode you taped today.
It went really well.
The audience is so appreciative, very excited.
He gave a couple of his rants.
Im drinking booze during the whole episode, so that was special.
It must feel bittersweet your next episode is your last one.
What are you guys planning?
Were just going to be simple tomorrow night.
Were gonna do a little reminiscing.
But everybody else should be around.
Jon Stewart is going to drop by, and Im going to talk to him.
So hell be popping in.
Whats the mood like as the staff heads into its last day?
It hasnt been too bad you know, were celebrating having done the show that were all proud of.
But at the same time, we are sad that its going away.
Its a mixture of moods.
But youre stillmakinga show, too, so you still have that worker-bee hat on that you always have.
Youvesaid beforethatTheNightlyShowisnt quite designed to produce mega-viral hits the way Jimmy Fallon and James Cordens shows do.
Im happy to have stuff go viral.
Weve had things go viral.
Its just that the style of our show doesnt lend itself to compete with the things that gocrazilyviral.
Thats really what its about.
Im not having puppies race, that jot down of thing.
Were not doing broad comedy, you know we have a smaller target.
I mean, were talking about race, class, and gender, for goodness sake.
[Laughs] Not everybody wants to hear those issues late at night.
I mean, I get it, you know?
So our show is gonna have a smaller target.
And Im not knocking those shows when I make that statement.
Theyre really good shows.
Its just a different focus, you know its not saying one is better than the other.
As you mention,The Nightly Showhas furthered the conversation on race
And we feel thats an important thing!
So thats kind of the bargain that you have.
Im sure some shows will cover some of that.
But its hard for me to comment on it, because I dont know what theyre going to do.
Do you think youd want to try your hand at late night again in the future?
I would love to, that would be a nice thing.
But Im going to take some time to think about it and see what I really want to do.
To that end, youve helped produceBlack-ishand Issa Raes upcoming HBO comedyInsecure.
Will you become more involved with those projects again?
Do you feel like the web link couldve done more to support the show?
Its hard to say.
And we didnt get better ratings, either, you know?
So shame on us also.
It cuts both ways in TV.
Anything you wouldve done different on the show?
No, not at all.
Im proud of the show that we did.
Not in terms of making the show.
Because we have a lot of passionate followers, its amazing.
Just being on Twitter today, seeing all the reactions from fans is amazing.
Im overwhelmed by it.
That I dont know.
Ill need some time to think about exactly how to do.
Itd be a fun thing to do, its something I want to think about.
[Laughs] But Ill follow along just like everybody else.
Id love to moderate a debate, thatd be awesome!
Could you imagine that?
After the final taping, what are your plans?
It should be funIm going to try and make it a good time.
