It was so nerve-wracking for McQuarrie to watch, he nearly fell asleep and missed it.
All I can really remember was how tired I was, he says.
I kept falling asleep and people kept waking me up and asking me questions.

Then again, the stuntwasstressful to pull off, especially when it came to making sure Cruise was safe.
[Laughs] It was surreal.
There was very little chance that Tom was gonna fall off the plane.
If there had been a bird strike, that would have been it.
Clearly, Toms a risk-taker, and youve worked with him on several films now.
To you, what makes Tom different from others in the industry?
He really loves making movies.
He loves every aspect.
Making movies is very hard.
And with Tom around, you never want to do that.
Any chance youll come back forMission: Impossibleagain?
What about working with Tom have the two of you started thinking about what youll do together next?
I read reports of how he had come up with a story idea for anEdge of Tomorrowsequel.
Have you talked about that?
Oh, we talk about it all the time, and its a matter of making it official.
I mean, Tom and I, were just sort of making one big movie together.
Whenever were making one movie, were talking about what the next movie will be.
So while we were talking aboutEdge2 andReacher3, he was ready to go off and doReacher2.
So while were talking, something materializes and then we kind of just let things come as they will.
There are also rumors you polished the script forRogue One.
Could you clarify your involvement on that film?
I never comment on any of the stuff that I do or may have done.
But it wont be you.
It wont be me.
So, whatever you hear is totally unreliable.
Going back toMission, what separates Ethan Hunt from other big-screen action heroes?
ConsideringSpectrejust came out, I want to know your thoughts on Ethan versus Bond.
I think if anything else, they would share a nod of professional respect and keep walking!
Thats where the fun of the character lies.
Hes a much more reluctant hero.
That was the challenge that was put to me immediately after we did it.
As soon as we landed, somebody said, What are you gonna do now?
Is going to even higher, newer heights on that list?
We have an idea, and it doesnt require low Earth orbit.
[Laughs] Lets put it this way: There are bigger stunts without more altitude.
