Disney has set the sequel for December 2018

Miranda will play a new character, a street lamplighter named Jack.
Both had been reported to be in talks for those roles earlier this year.

The film will be directed by Rob Marshall and produced Marshall, John DeLuca, and Marc Platt.
It will feature a screenplay by David Magee based onThe Mary Poppins Storiesby P.L.
She and her friend Jack then help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.
