The budding star tells EW about working with Prince and what she has on deck this year
Minneapolis born singer-rapper Lizzo isn’t exactly sure what her upcoming third album will sound like, but one thing’s certain: “It’s gonna be dope!”
Lizzo (born Melissa Jefferson) first broke out in 2013 with the highly-political, stream-of-consciousness styleLizzobangersand followed it up with last year’sBig Grrl Small Worlda searing and highly danceable album that, like Beyonce’s “Formation,” explores race and gender in America right now.
Today, she stopped by the EW offices to shares stories about working with Prince (she was featured on “Boy Trouble,” off the late icon’s 2014 releasePLECTRUMELECTRUM, which was, as she says, “Surreal…the moment when I became an artist”), recording her debut in an attic in Minnesota, writing “Good As Hell,” the infectious anthem off theBarbershop 3soundtrackand why her only goal right now is to put as much positivity out into the work as possible.
