(The brothers graveside heart-to-heart was one of the shows most poignant moments to date.)
WILL FORTE:I dont know at what point.
There are certain parameters that youre faced with when you work with somebody like Jason.

Everything seemed to make us feel like that was the right way to go with it.
Maybe theres a cure?
Did you have any second thoughts?
Well, hes not a doctor, Im not a doctor.
Nobody knows for sure its the virus.
Certainly it looks like it is.
As with everything, we will always leave ourselves a little wiggle room… We certainly think about that.
So we were so excited to get him for as long as we did.
Yes, I spent a little time on WebMD.
]Phil 2, the second Phil, is dead.
That is 100 percent.Gordon is dead.
We havent seen Jason in his coffin.
But that doesnt mean…
I didnt see George Washington in his coffin, and I know hes dead.
So you dont have to see somebody in their coffin.
And I am talking about the President of the United States.
I know there are probably living people with the name of George Washington.
And theyre alive…. That proves my point the other way.
But Jason was very good to give us all those angles.
Can you talk about the possibility of seeing Jason early in season 3?
Well, Ill be honest.
We usually only have a couple tiny little traces of what are going to happen.
We said Mike is going to come down at some point.
And thank God, because I cant imagine it happening any other way now.
So I can very honestly tell you I dont know because we dont know yet.
Everyones off on vacation.
We get back in the writers room June 1.
Im not saying that everybody will find it emotionally satisfying.
We would only do something like that if there was a really good reason for it.
And hes becoming a dad… And I think this will likely bring the group closer together.
What sticks out to you about filming the scene?
Was that a powerful scene for you guys to shoot?
Those are my parents names, Patti and Reb.
And there was a guy who was like a brother to me.
It was a very emotionally resonant moment.
hey tell me you actually hadFalling Slowlyplaying in the background for the inspiration when you filmed that scene.
And it also feels like someonemay have watchedGhost?
WILL FORTE:[Laughs.]
When we thought of it, we described it as, Oh, like the pottery scene inGhost!
so that was in our hearts and minds as we were setting out to do that.
But then it just seemed to make way more sense to do Falling Slowly.
What else do you remember about shooting that, with Jason lovingly shaving your head?
There were so many things going on.
[The scene] was in this little teeny room, and it was great.
That week was a real mess.
[affecting an uppity accent] Weve got to complete ourart.
We got to do our artistic scene about a fart jar!
Im going to get to the fart jar in one second.
Well, not a lot of people get that experience, so it was an adventure to be sure.
No, not sad to see it go.
So as a result I had to walk around for three weeks with a real male-pattern baldness look.
This is just complete, total dork that I had to walk around with.
The weirdest thing to me is thinking about doing the show, doing Tandy without some form of hair.
This could be your greatest challenge yet.
Which of the writers drew from his or her own life to pitch the fart jar idea?
It might have been me.
I dont think it was me… Well…
Certainly I probably fart the most of the writers or publicly fart the most of the writers.
I dont remember, to tell you the truth.
I dont think anybodys ever done a fart jar where theyve saved it.
I have farted into a jar before, and very, very quickly unleashed it on my sister.
The return of Pat (Mark Boone Junior)was exciting.
What can you tease about what happens when they reach the shore?
I didnt see a welcome pound cake, but it might have just been hidden behind the guns.
This is one where I dont know.
Thats something were going to figure out.
We knew how we wanted to leave it.
That Pat thing was not just a throwaway.
But thats one of the things Im most excited about these three for is how open-ended weve left it.
And if youve noticed, there are two other people with hazmat suits.
We made it a priority to obscure the faces so nobody knows who those people are.
Do you know who those people are?
We have a bunch of ideas.
We are in the process of figuring that out.
Honestly, we dont know exactly what were going to do there….
So Im super excited to start getting on that.
Well, there are two ways to go.
It would be fantastic and fun and well figure out something awesome for them.
Right now it would be more about getting these people first….
But yes, its a fair question.
Was the plan always to have Pat return in the finale after you introduced him in the spring premiere?
No, it wasnt, but it did come up when we were doing that episode.
It was so awesome.
To think that its just him and then have these two other guys.
Well pick up where we left off.
Thats something I can tell you.
No time jump…. Well, you know what?
like dont take that away from us.
Theres no way were going to skip over that.
I did not get a crack at 88 miles an hour.
I had to go around curvy sidestreets, and its also like a treasure.
An aging national treasure.
So I was very respectful.
There are so many different ways to go.
We talked about this, and this is another case of: Well figure it out.
But at the same time, whatevers best for the story….
It would be scary to be pregnant in this world with no doctors.
A lot of fun and interesting stories I think can come out of that stuff.
Whats the most cryptic hint you could just leave us with about season 3?
We just dont know.
Anybody could die at any point, even me.
Answer this: Will we see Gails vibrating massage finger at one point?
But if you come to the set Ill show it to you.
