Police are reporting that no one else was injured

Officials in Germany say a man was shot dead after entering a movie theater with a weapon on Thursday and taking several hostages,the Associated Press reports.

Police spokesman Bernd Hochstaedter told a local television station that the armed man entered the Kinopolis movie theater and apparently fired a gun.

Hesse Interior Minister Peter Beuth said police shot the man dead about three hours later, and that it wasnt clear whether the weapon was real.

We believe that there were no injured people, and that the people who were in the cinema with the perpetrator could be freed uninjured, he said, according to the AP.

This incident follows two recent movie theater shootings here in America: In 2012, James Holmeskilled 12 people and injured 70 at a Colorado theaterduring the midnight premiere ofThe Dark Night,and in 2015,John Russell Houser killed two and injured ninewhen he opened fire at a Louisiana theaters screening ofTrainwreck.
