Emma Clines debut novelThe Girls, which has received advance praise from Jennifer Egan and Richard Ford, doesnt hit shelves until June 14, 2016 but anticipation is already building.
The Girls,set in 1960s California, centers on a lonely teen named Evie Boyd who is drawn to a carefree, cool group of girls she sees at a park especially a magnetic girl named Suzanne.
Evie is invited into their circle, which will soon become infamous as a cult with a charismatic male leader.

Hidden in the hills, their sprawling ranch is eerie and run-down, but to Evie, it is exotic, thrilling, chargeda place where she feels desperate to be accepted, the books official description states.
As she spends more time away from her mother and the rhythms of her daily life, and as her obsession with Suzanne intensifies, Evie does not realize she is coming closer and closer to unthinkable violence, and to that moment in a girls life when everything can go horribly wrong.
Says author Cline, The Girlsis about the desire to be seen and known, and how that desire can make young girls vulnerable, especially to the vision of themselves offered by other people.
I wanted to look at that moment in adolescence when young girls are both becoming aware of a new kind of power but also running up against the disclaimers society puts on female identity.
