It really is about connecting all the new stuff that were doing to our favorite material from the past.

For Dream, I would say there isnt a more important role in the story than his.
He comes and goes.
On the one hand, it has this literal meaning.

I started thinking, whos been the detective of history in the DCU?
Hawkman came up for me.
What if dark energy is coming through this material in Hawkmans mythos, Nth metal?

Theres that alloy of characters that way.
All the strange substances, from Kryptonite to Prometheum to Hephaestus forge.
What if this crazy message starts coming through these substances and affecting this world?
Then the third way, the biggest, is we want it to be fun.
The world is stressful.
Its been a rough year.
Ive certainly felt like that at different times in my life.
This story is in no ways an escapist fantasy.
I love that early stuff, Black Sabbath, and the musicality of it.
And then we have these fun editorial notes like see the 90s.
Before doingMetal, you and Greg spent years creating a hugely popular Batman run.
Superman has Batman and is like, What are you doing?
Theyve been secretly infecting me with different metals.
And you see all the different points in our run, like Remember this?
It totally connects for me.
All that stuff is pretty connected.
Its meant to take all those threads and say, You thought Batman was in charge but he wasnt.
All of those stories were actually just a prelude to this.
