The entire saga was recently dramatized on the big screen inTruth, starringRobert Redfordas Rather.

“We reported a true story.

We didn’t do it perfectly,” the 84-year-old recently toldThe Hollywood Reporter.

“We made some mistakes of getting to the truth.

But that didn’t change the truth of what we reported.”

The documents were not, however, ever proved to be forgeries.

Rather was subsequently removed from the anchor desk before leavingCBS Newsfor good in 2006 after 44 years.

Rather still contends that the main aspects of the report were “bedrock facts,” however.

So they concentrated on the documents and they succeeded," he said of the investigation into the story.

He currently hosts a Web series called"The Big Interview."

“A lot of that comes from covering controversial stories.”

And, the reporter insists, through it all, he has no regrets.

“I’m very proud of the career I had.
