Brian Williams will be back covering nightly news as he is set for a new program on MSNBC, which will focus primarily on the presidential race.

Through the election, the former host ofNBC Nightly Newswill anchor a half hour show each night at 11 p.m,according to the AP.

Williams newscast will air in the time slot that had previously been home to repeats of the networks primetime line-up.

The new nightly show marks the most high-profile role for Williams since he wasdismissed from his positionatNightly Newsin June 2015 for a false claim that he had made about being brought down by enemy fire while in a helicopter during the Iraq War.

Williams has seen his work load and presence on MSNBC continue to increase since he first appearedlast Septemberduring coverage of Pope Francis visit to the United States.

While he had spent many months mainly reporting daytime stories, Williamsreturned to primetimein February as he co-anchored the networks coverage of the Iowa Caucus.
