Weinberger will be one of the executive producer of Simmons HBO talk show, due next year.
Simmons ESPN contract was not renewed by the company in May,leading to his exit.
He inked hisHBO deal in summerand debutedhis new podcast last month.
The deal notably excluded any indication of where Simmons column would end up.
Since the podcasts release, it has garnered over 12 million downloads in just under two months.
Simmons founded Grantland, a sports and pop culture website under the ESPN umbrella, in 2011.
It was shut downat the end of October.
Four key Grantland staffers followed Simmons to HBO before the site stopped production last month.
