The sequence is haunting.

Oz, Israels most acclaimed living author, writes words that resonate with generosity and bitter truth.

In one, a soldier shoots himself; in another a heartsick woman self-immolates.

And thats certainly not a bad thing.

Tonally, the film doesnt quite match with the universality of Ozs shimmering prose.

Yet Portmans evocation of this world has a strange, captivating pull.
